Is there an age limit?
No. If you meet the requirements for a commercial pilot certificate you are eligible for a CFI rating.

Do I need to be a commercial pilot?
Yes. As a flight instructor you will be getting paid to fly. This means that you are operating as a commercial pilot.

How long does it take?
There is no minimum time required. It is base on proficiency. Once you are proficient on all the required maneuvers, basically the private and commercial maneuvers, you are eligible.

What’s in it for me?
As a flight instructor you get paid to fly. In addition you also are given the opportunity for building invaluable experience as a pilot in command. This is the most common step after getting a commercial pilot certificate for building the experience that some other aviation careers require.
